Sanctions Explained is published by Onward Africa, a communications firm based in Nairobi. Our work includes clients in the payments and revenue-collection sector.

Where the information comes from

Every statement about a measure comes from the official text that created it: the State Department release, the Treasury (OFAC) notice and list entry, the UK sanctions list, the EU Official Journal, or the law itself. We link that text on the page. News reports are used only for context and are attributed by name.

Each page shows the date we last checked it. Sanctions lists change daily. Always confirm a name against the official list before you act on it.
